Benefits of Relaxation

There are many who do not even realize how unrelaxed they are. One needs a comparison to see how different things can be. If one’s new normal is a tight and overactive muscle system, elevated heart rate and perpetually breathing like they are doing a fast walk when resting then it is hard to notice something is out of balance.

Doing the relaxation technique, even in one sitting, could provide a notable contrast to business as usual in our bodies. One can see just how overstimulated our bodies are. It is akin to going on a vacation and after 3-4 days one actually finally resets and feels like they can enjoy their vacation. Well, the resetting process can be something one could do daily and provide the opportunity self-regulate so much more effectively.  One does not need that vacation as an escape and as a result, may feel more ready to take advantage of the enjoyments a vacation can offer.

Relaxation over time recalibrates our autonomic nervous system back to more normal parameters related to our heart rate, breathing, or hormonal activity, and perhaps even affect digestion and sleep for the better.  It is not an overnight change but is a process of influence which cultivates the art of letting go and stepping out of our rigorous roles in life and just have a few minutes of beingness.

In this beingness, one may find themselves outside of all the mental and emotional drama of our life to look upon things more from an observer’s viewpoint. A sense of stillness is noted physically and the mind just content to observe. This is a comfortable place to allow the body’s innate intelligence to handle the chronic outpoints in our physiology to promote health and well-being.

Have you not heard it said and perhaps you have felt this way as well that you wish everything could just stop for a while? Well, there is no stopping life but we can take periodic time outs and create are own void in time to allow our minds and bodies a chance to rest by doing a relaxation process. Such a technique gives one space and space often opens the mind for more creativity and solutions to problems. Being too close to a problem can be blinding to the possible solutions available, space give perspective. One does not do the relaxation technique to get a solution, they do it to relax but in that space opportunities may or may not emerge.

The other type of rest or “time out” is sleep. Yes, it affords one rest but often our minds do not get the same opportunity to rest as our bodies. Dreaming and the “busy mind” operate to make compete body/mind rest unlikely. As well, when we sleep there are often associated para-functional activities we do outside of our awareness physically such as jaw clenching, hand gripping and our breathing can be labored and altered such as with sleep apnea. So, sleep is not a restful as one would imagine especially when under a lot of stress.

This is where relaxation can shine as a method to handle stress and its negative effects and allow one a better night’s sleep as well.

This is a no cost solution to many of the physical and mental complaints a person contends with over time. The more complex one’s life is the more they need to be competent with the art of relaxation. It gives one back the control they seek, it is control that is intrinsic. It has no negative side effects common with medication, alcohol or recreational drugs; it only creates good effects. Effects which can affect all systems in our bodies for the better which includes the regular cycle of healing our bodies need to remain in control of our health. Yes, it sounds too good to be true, but nothing is true until it is true for you. Play with it and discover for yourself it benefits. Contact Full Potential today to learn more!
