Foot and Ankle Rehabilitation

The foot and ankle complex is an engineering marvel. During walking or running, the foot must balance the dynamic need for adaptation as the foot connects with the ground and then must rapidly stabilize for the push off phase of gait. Consider that the body lands with five times body weight with running and the demands on this system become clearer. Outside of fractures and sprains, the foot and ankle are more prone to overuse injuries. This is where a physical therapist must take a close look at all the variables related to the foot and ankle and up the kinetic chain to the pelvis to get a true appreciation for how stress is concentrating in the painful area. The foot should be screened as well for pain in the hip or knee since dysfunction in the lower leg causes more torsional stress to move up the chain to the weakest link. As well, foot ware and orthotics play a notable role in how stress is dispersed which adds another component to the evaluation process. At Full Potential physical therapy, we not only evaluate closely but treat the complete kinetic system so the resolution of your problem is assured.
