Our Practice

Full Potential Physical Therapy had its beginning in 1995 as Hanneken Physical Therapy. Vincent Hanneken, physical therapist and founder of Full Potential, was motivated to establish a practice where each patient could receive expert orthopedic care applied on an individual basis. As the practice grew the name was changed to Full Potential Physical Therapy in 2006 to better represent the vision of helping patients maximize their physical ability. At this time, a new facility was designed and built to provide a professional environment that provided a more therapeutic atmosphere for our patients and a pleasant working space for our staff.

Throughout Full Potential’s history, there have been many changes in our healthcare community yet we have remained an independently-owned PT business that has survived and grown because we have established a reputation of getting the results our patients and referral sources expect.

Our success is predominantly based on the quality of our organization and the staff who comprise Full Potential. We are extremely proud of not only the physical therapists and physical therapist’s assistants who provide care for our patients but as well as our support staff. The Full Potential staff forms a team that understands how to work together to provide a positive therapeutic experience for our patients.

Our mission is to help YOU!

It is a truism that one’s purpose or reason for doing something motivates and inspires.  Our purpose is defined by our Mission Statement. We do not consider it to be just an idle description but a statement that invigorates our staff to help you recover the physical ability you have lost or a goal you want to achieve. It was deliberately crafted to inspire us and define for you how we want to make a difference in your life.

Our Mission:

To
assist
the people in our
community to overcome
their pain and physical limitations
by empowering them to a higher level of ability
and understanding through effective individualized care,
educational training, and personalized home exercise programs

A triangle is a symbol of stability in form, not so unlike our goal for you to have your feet square on the ground and feel stable in moving forward to live your life. And, the word “empower” says it all, it is about not only giving you the help you need but giving you the knowledge to help yourself. It can be a life-changing process as many of our testimonials would attest.

A Better Life is Only Four Steps Away

Physical therapy can be an unfamiliar experience for many. To orient new patients to the process, we have divided their rehab journey into four segments called “The Four Phases of Getting Better.” It is important to note that while there are four phases utilized over the course of your care, they are not totally separate. They move gradually toward greater strengthening and function, which is the end goal to return confidently to the life you desire to live.

1

Pain Relief

The first focus in getting better is pain relief. After your evaluation, your physical therapist will use hands-on techniques or manual therapy, light therapeutic exercise, and education on how to modify your activity and posture in order to give you more control over your pain. In this stage, modalities like ice, heat, myofascial release, electric stimulation and kinesiotape may be used.

2

Improve Mobility/Flexibility

The second step in this method is to improve mobility and flexibility. Your therapist will design a progressive program of range of motion and light stretching to restore mobility and reduce pain.

3

Improve Strength/Control

In the third step of this method, muscle weakness will be addressed to help you maintain the gains and momentum you achieve through phases one and two. A thorough strengthening process is the step that gives results that last, and this will prepare you for more functional training – the final step.

4

Functional Training

Now that your pain is resolved and you have the necessary mobility and strength, your program can be advanced into functional training. Whether you are returning to work, returning to life after post-op rehabilitation, getting back into recreation or sports, or simply returning to the activities of daily life, this step helps ensure your success after graduation and empowers you to be confident in your abilities again.

Our Philosophy

Full Potential Physical Therapy’s treatment philosophy is to provide care that acknowledges each patient as an individual with their circumstances and needs. Starting with a patient’s initial visit we conduct a thorough interview and evaluation. Through this process, we intend to develop a level of understanding that allows us to properly approach a patient’s problem. We appraise each patient, not purely as a diagnosis, but as a person whose ability to function in their world and enjoy life has become limited and painful. Your body has a story to tell just as you do and understanding both communications is how to solve your problem.

In conjunction with a patient’s treatment, physical therapists provide educational information to help the patient understand how to help themselves. The old axiom knowledge is power could not be more true than for someone in persistent pain. Painful situations that have not healed in a predictable amount of time often require a lifestyle assessment to help the patient understand what daily habits could be contributing to their ongoing painful condition. Through this process, patients come to understand that getting better requires their interest and participation to reach their goals. When a patient is discharged from our care, we hope that they feel their physical therapy experience was an investment for a healthier future and well worth their time and effort.

It is no small truth that a person’s future is highly dependent on a body healthy enough to take them forward toward their goals. A bucket list can start early in a life but it’s not so easy to check the items off as well as enjoy the process without the cooperation of their body. Because Full Potential acknowledges a patient’s unique needs all along the way, whether younger or older, we are able to help them reach for what is important in their life at whatever point in life they are.

Our former patients are really our best resource for validating the effectiveness of our care. Take a look at the testimonial section of our patient information page to get an understanding of our success in helping people.

Sincerely,

Vincent Hanneken, PT and Owner
